Lintec Submits Commitment Letter to SBTi
Establishes Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reduction Targets to Contribute to a Sustainable Society
To promote the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions throughout the supply chain, Lintec has submitted a commitment letter to the Science Based Targets initiative*1 (SBTi), an international body that enables businesses to set science-based targets for GHG emissions reductions, known as the Science Based Targets*2 (SBTs).
The commitment letter represents a formal pledge by companies to develop science-based targets aligned with the SBTi Criteria and submit them to SBTi for validation within two years . Under the SBTi, a company's GHG reduction targets are certified as SBT if they align with the Paris Agreement*3 goal of limiting the global temperature increase to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels . Lintec has submitted its letter to obtain certification for near-term targets (reduction targets five to ten years ahead) and has declared its intent to achieve SBT certification within two years.
The Lintec Group has formulated its Lintec Sustainability Vision 2030 (LSV 2030), envisioning its desired state by 2030, and is accelerating efforts to fulfill its roles and responsibilities as a corporate group in addressing societal issues, including combating global warming. Lintec has identified "helping to shape a carbon-free world " as a key initiative and has promoted solar power generation systems at domestic and overseas plants. Additionally, it has procured green power, installed new energy-efficient equipment, and expanded sites equipped with cogeneration systems that generate electricity and heat from gas energy. Moving forward, the company will explore streamlining production facilities through integration and consolidation, adopting new energy sources such as hydrogen, and operating AI-driven energy storage systems, aiming to achieve SBT certification and reduce GHG emissions.
- *1Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi): An initiative established by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF), the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), the World Resources Institute (WRI), and the United Nations Global Compact (UNGC) to assess and validate corporate GHG reductions.
- *2Science-Based Targets (SBTs): GHG reduction targets set by companies aligned with the Paris Agreement standards.
- *3Paris Agreement: An international treaty adopted in 2015 at the Conference of the Parties (COP21) to reduce GHG emissions. At the conference, all participating nations agreed to make concerted efforts to limit the increase in global average temperature to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels.
